Funky Friday

Fairmont Hotel & Raffles Suites, Makati

November 21, 2014
Checked in at Fairmont with my mother.

Room
I loved the room even if it was small because even though we requested for a smoking room, it didn't smell bad at all. I loved our (smoking) room at The Manila Peninsula two weeks earlier, but the smell was horrible. I know we shouldn't even be smoking, but I was expecting the exhaust fans to do its job. Fortunately for Fairmont, since it's a relatively new hotel in Makati, the exhausts are doing a great job. Our smoking room smelled of clean laundry.

Food
If there's one thing I anticipate whenever we check in at hotels, it's got to be the breakfast buffet. We stayed at Fairmont for two nights, so I had experienced two breakfasts. On the first day, I really enjoyed their Chicken Pork Adobo and my forever favorite scrambled egg with onions. I guess I had two plates of those, and a plate of waffle. My favorite part of their buffet would be the juice area. They have different fresh fruit juices and that is definitely an A for me. On the second day, I was so excited to see they had Corned Beef. I immediately grabbed a plate and got myself Corned Beef and again, my scrambled egg. When I was to get another plate of CB since it was really really good, it was gone and they replaced it with something  I am not familiar with. I mean, why?! Why would you replace your delicious Corned Beef with something that doesn't look like it's supposed to be served during breakfast?!

To sum it up, my breakfast experience was an A-. I still prefer Shangri-La hotels :)

Mi lovies from Nexus
While my mom was in a meeting, Kuya Ken and I had lunch and stayed at Starbucks for a while before checking in. After chilling for about an hour in the room, he dropped me off at Nexus. I was invited by the Sales AVP to attend his annual birthday celebration at Nexus. We call this beer bust. Beer bust, from the name itself, is a random Friday night where there is beer to bust. Free unlimited beer. I've always enjoyed attending beer busts before. Now, I enjoy seeing my friends, drinking free beer, and listening to crazy gossips.

Being inside the Nexus office feels like home to me somehow. (Yes, there is a part of me that regrets quitting, but the bigger part of me is still happy I did. Most of the legitimate reasons of my quitting cannot be posted here so I hope some people would stop judging my decision.) When I saw my (old) table, I still felt like the things there were mine even though there was not a single pink item. Passing through my boss' table, going to my big boss' office, my friends' tables, everything. They all feel the same. The Nexus people who have touched my life will always be a part of me no matter how far they are. Most of my friends live in the South so it's really hard to catch up. But seeing them and talking to them last Friday was piece of cake. I love them all dearly.

One more time, yes?

One Step Closer

I cannot take this anymore. Saying everything I said before.
All these words, they make no sense. I find bliss in ignorance.
Everything you say to me takes me one step closer to the edge
I'm about to break, I need a little room to breathe.

It's another Monday yet again and all I can think of is my last day of work. I'm very happy to say that I finally know what I want to do with my life. I really don't see myself as an office girl for life, or someone who pleases clients and make someone else rich. I really see myself doing the things I know I love, and make myself rich.

I am one step closer to making my resignation official. I have explained myself to my supervisor already, and the next step would be to talk to the big boss. In all honesty, I'm more concerned with what my supervisor would say and think than what the big boss might say and think. I only have a business relationship with the big boss so it's a lot easier to break it to him. With my supervisor, I consider her not only as my direct boss but also a big sister. No kidding. She is a very nice person and no one has ever stood as an "ate" to me the way she has. I think her sister being a year younger than me is a big factor to that - I think she somehow sees something in me that reminds her of her sister. To me, well, I don't have a sister. I guess I'll never know how it feels like to have one but thanks to her, I'm close to believing I have one. Although it may be impossible for her to see this post, I know I won't forget to let her know how I feel about her and how I feel about leaving.

This is my first job since graduation and obviously my first time to resign. When I see/hear my friends resign, I don't understand how "easy" it is for them to do it. It took me a few months to finally advise my boss that I was to resign. Imagine that - months.  Months. How come my friends simply pass their resignation letters? I think my problem is, and always is, me being attached to people. I should do something about that.
...or not? I think that's one thing about me. Although my past experiences don't really support what I'm about to say, but loyalty is very important to me. I can easily forgive someone who has been disloyal to me, given they'd explain why they've done it and actually make me understand their situation, but if I choose to be loyal to you, may you be a friend, a partner, or a colleague, expect me to be loyal. Maybe that's one thing that people like me for. I'm not assuming, okay. I said maybe. ;)

To sum this entry up, I'm just very excited to finally end this journey. It has been one hell of a ride, but I still learned a lot. To all my colleagues who have contributed to who I am now, thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

New World

Tuesday, July 16, 2013

I was browsing through my photos and I saw this. This was a friend's 18th party; and I'm pretty sure you all know how crazy this night turned out to be.

I decided to blog about the different things I went through after graduating.

When I graduated, I had the easy life. I traveled with my best friend, I visited my dad's homeland, my family and I went to different tourist spots, etc. I didn't look for a job immediately because I really didn't need to. I kept on telling my mom (who was nagging me to open up another business) that I want to get a job first just so I'd be able to appreciate things more. You know, like what I always say on my blogs.

Around this time last year, the HR personnel of our company texted me and asked if I wanted to go for an interview for Product Specialist. First thing I did was google the company and the position. Obviously, the interview went well and I started working a few weeks after. My first week was fine. I think the only thing that bothered me then was the early wake up time. I used to wake up around 10-11AM. When I started working, it had to be 5AM since I live far from Makati. Until all the different issues came.

  • Loss of time with boyfriend/friends -- this was a big deal to me cause as stated on my previous blogs, my boyfriend and I broke up. We were both culture-shocked with my new environment and he kind of needed to look for other things (lol)
  • Parties -- I was never really the type of person who go to parties every week. I see to it that I do at least twice a month but when I started working, I lost that chance. Since my body has already adjusted, I can go to parties once in a while again
  • Sleep -- Since I've been trying to joggle my time with my family, boyfriend, friends, social life, and work, I'm left with no sleep. Sometimes I just feel very high in the office because of lack of sleep. I try to sleep before midnight most of the time, but there are just so many things to do, so many people to talk to, and so many games to play (hihihi)
  • Money -- this is what I am proud of. Bragging aside, I don't really need the money I'm getting from my job. But since I get it twice in one month, I am, little by little, learning how to save up and appreciate money.
  • Appreciation -- Given that I grew up spoiled, I never really thought of the things my parents did for me. Maybe I did, it just so happened that I never understood what they were trying to say about getting the money they share with me. Now, I do. :)
Given all this, and if you add all my posts regarding my employment, I guess you could say I'm doing well. I want to be better than what I am now, and finally be able to open up the businesses I've been dreaming about. ☺

My New World

Tuesday, January 22, 2013
I am five (5) months old at my job already and I don't think I have posted an entry involving my work friends. Sorry, I don't really like calling them my "work" friends. For the months I've been with this company, I have spent more than office hours with these people and I believe I found new true friends. Along with all the issues at work, they've stood by my side and have comforted me; and I to them. We have shared a lot about our personal lives already. Nobody is perfect, but we can always choose to be good. There are some people in the office who gave me the fear of looking at everyone in two ways. I have heard a lot of stories, but I don't always tend to believe until I experience them. I try to understand what runs through their heads when they do what they do, but all I want is for them to realize their own faults and change.

Nevertheless, I thank these people for making my office life an awesome one.

Wednesday, August 15, 2012

Today, August 15, 2012, is my first time to feel that I am part of the corporate world. I never wanted to be part of it, in fact I wanted to avoid it. But then again, things don't always go as planned. I took the job because I wanted to, not because I feel regretful of waking up at 2PM everyday, doing nothing at home. I wanted to work for this company because I wanted personal growth, I wanted to see how a company works in real life (apart from things I've learned in school which is so different), and most of all, I wanted to see if I could be someone I never thought I would be.

Today's my 5th day at work and today, I attended a meeting. My first "corporate" meeting. It went well; actually better than I expected. I didn't know I would enjoy attending this. I thought I would freak out. I thought I would humiliate myself. -- I thought of the worst things. I was so relieved afterwards because I surprisingly turned out okay. In fact, I am looking forward to more meetings.

I am part of the Sales Department and I am going to make client calls - talk to different people from different companies. I believe I can deliever well, but I need training first. I believe that by next week, I'd have my first call, but I'm grateful that my boss will come with me. She will guide me for two weeks and after that, I'm on my own. Oh. My. Gosh. This is it. This is the moment. I have to work harder and gather more confidence so I'd be able to close a deal. Yeah, I think I can do that.

Well, kudos to my first meeting. They provided free Starbucks and I pretty much expected that.
